Communication is a basic human right. We are passionate about helping children find their voice and learn to communicate to the best of their ability, regardless of their challenges.
SPEECH AND LANGUAGE SERVICES
ASSESSMENT & TREATMENT

We assess a wide range of communication abilities, including expressive and receptive language, speech sound productionc social communication, and early literacy skills. Additionally, we evaluate the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems, with a focus on high-tech software.

Our assessments may utilize a combination of standardized tests, developmental checklists, qualitative measures, observation, parent input, and direct interaction with your child. Both formal and informal methods may be applied over several sessions to gain a comprehensive understanding of your child’s needs.

Therapy often begins alongside the assessment process, providing immediate support. Our goal-setting is shaped by your child's response to different treatment approaches, ensuring meaningful progress from the very first session. Throughout our sessions we use an approach that is play-based and child-led, incorporating your child’s interests and offering access to sensory-motor supports in our clinic space to help them stay engaged and comfortable throughout the process.
CONSULTATIONS
We offer consultation services for parents, caregivers, teachers, and other professionals involved in your child's care to provide a holistic approach to therapy. This collaboration ensures that your child's communication is supported across various environments, such as home, school, and the community, helping to maximize their progress.

OUR APPROACH

At Mindfully Speaking, we believe that every child has their own unique way of communicating, and we’re here to celebrate and support that. Our neurodiversity-affirming approach to speech and language therapy, especially for autistic children, focuses on honoring your child’s individuality and helping them express themselves in a way that feels true to who they are.

What Does This Mean for Your Child?
-
Personalized Support: Every child is different, so we create a plan that fits your child’s specific communication style, interests, and sensory needs. Whether your child uses words, gestures, or an AAC device, we help them communicate in a way that feels comfortable and natural.

-
Building on Strengths: Instead of trying to change your child’s way of communicating, we focus on what they already do well. We believe in building on their strengths and helping them feel proud of their progress.

-
Respecting Their Pace: Your child won’t be pushed to communicate in ways that don’t feel right to them. We respect their boundaries and the pace at which they are ready to learn and grow.

-
Supporting Sensory Needs for Regulation: We understand that sensory regulation plays a big part in how children engage and communicate. That’s why we use a sensory-based approach, incorporating tools and strategies like fidget toys, sensory breaks, and calming spaces to help your child stay regulated. When children feel more comfortable and calm, they’re better able to focus and communicate in a way that works for them.

-
Encouraging Self-Advocacy: We teach your child how to express their needs and preferences—whether that’s asking for a break, requesting help, or choosing an activity—so they feel empowered to advocate for themselves.

-
Fun, Play-Based Learning: Our sessions are designed to be fun and engaging, using play and activities that your child enjoys. This makes communication feel natural and encourages them to participate in their own way.

We believe that communication is about so much more than just words. It’s about helping your child feel understood, confident, and heard—exactly as they are. With our sensory-based supports and child-centered approach, we create a safe and welcoming environment where your child can develop their communication skills while staying true to themselves.
